Psychologists diagnose mental disorders, conduct psychological and/or neuropsychological assessments, treat mental disorders through a variety of modalities and provide adjunctive interventions for treatment of medical disorders.
Among the modalities provided are individual, family, and group psychotherapies, and other interventions such as biofeedback, psychological hypnosis, and environmental interventions.
They consult with medical center staff on a wide variety of patient care issues.
Staff Psychologists may be involved in program evaluation and/or research activities.
The duties of the Psychologist include, but are not limited to:
o Administers a wide variety of group and individual psychological tests.
Uses a variety of intelligence and personality assessment measures.
Serves as an authoritative source of information in the use and interpretation of tests to differentiate between functional and organic damage to the patient.
o The incumbent provides professional consultation pertaining to human behavior, determining the reasons for that behavior and predicting and/or modifying the behavior.
The incumbent works individually or as a member of a multi-disciplinary treatment team to provide recommendations or treatment plans concerning psychological assessments and intervention.
o Performs psychological assessment, evaluation, and treatment of patients with problems of personality, emotional adjustment or mental illness.
Performs psychotherapy with patients, either through individual sessions or through group therapy sessions.
Uses therapeutic techniques.
o Through testing and clinical interviews and observation, assesses intelligence, behavior and personality variables.
Assists in differential diagnosis of functional and organic disorders.
